In April 2008, the government expanded the Saskatchewan Employment Supplement by $2 million - the largest increase in the program's history.

Seniors

The following programs are offered through the Ministry of Social Services to assist low-income seniors with their basic needs:

		Affordable Housing Rentals Make it possible for moderate-income seniors to access suitable rental accommodations ensuring that rents are maintained at the low end of the market.

		Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence (HASI) A program that helps low-income seniors with disabilities to make minor adaptations to their homes. *(pdf document)*

		Saskatchewan Assisted Living Services (SALS) Designed for tenants living in senior rental units managed through the Social Housing Rental Program (Social Housing).

		Saskatchewan Home Energy Improvement Program (SHEIP) - Low-Income Households Provides a top-up grant that is combined with the grants offered through SaskEnergy's Saskatchewan EnerGuide for Houses Program and the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit Initiative. *(pdf document)*

		Saskatchewan Home Energy Improvement Program (SHEIP) - Moderate-Income Homeowners A program that provides financial assistance to homeowners in order to help with the costs of energy retrofits. *(pdf document)*

		Saskatchewan Home Energy Improvement Program (SHEIP) - Rental A program that provides financial assistance to rental property owners who house low-income tenants in order to help with the costs of energy retrofits to rental units. *(pdf document)*

		Seniors Income Plan Provides a monthly supplement to seniors who have little or no income other than the federal Old Age Security pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

		Social Housing Rental Program (SHRP) Provides suitable, adequate and affordable rental housing for low-income seniors and families in more than 280 communities throughout the province.
